Duncan Gregory is a writer and photographer based in Los Angeles. He’s cooked off the books in a Croatian kitchen, spent three months lost in a Finnish forest, and hiked his film camera through some of the hottest desserts in the United States. He’s currently working on a piece that begins in a modest tea shop in the San Gabriel Valley and ends on a mountain in southwest China.
Duncan believes there's a common reflex (especially from a modern American vantage point) to treat people who live differently than we do as somehow 'behind.' Travel, for him, is a way to resist that notion. In his work, he strives to meet people as contemporaries, not as windows into the past, but as evidence of intentional, alternative ways of living in the present.
